Student Council at North Garner Middle School is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.  Each homeroom class elects a Student Council Representative. This person must be reliable to bring pertinent information back to class after meetings.  Also, they cannot have a record of suspensions during the school year.

Students may also run for the following officer positions: 8th Grade President, 7th Grade Vice-President, 7th Grade Parliamentarian, 6th/ 7th Grade Secretary, and 6th/ 7th Grade Treasurer.

The following guidelines have been established for the officer positions of the Student Council at North Garner Middle School :

1.                          No Student Council officer can have any suspension on his or her record at NGMS from the previous year. This includes both short- term and long- term suspensions.

2.                          No Student Council officer can have an overall grade point average lower than a 2.0 (with no grade lower than a “C”) from the previous year. This must also be maintained throughout their term in Student Council.

3.                          Every Student Council officer must be in compliance with the NGMS attendance policy.

4.                          Every Student Council officer must have three references submitted during the election process that promote the student for an officer position.

Student Publications Staff at NGMS
Students produce the school newspaper, Trojan Times, quarterly, and the school literary magazine, Echoes, at the end of the school year.

Students in grades 6, 7, and 8, are eligible to join.

Commitment for student staff members includes meetings every Thursday after school and  meeting publication deadlines. The staff needs good writers, proofreaders and photographers who are highly motivated and able to work independently. The application process opens once each quarter. Students are encouraged to make a year-long commitment

ANYONE may submit articles and photos – we encourage ALL STUDENTS to send in their opinions for the Trojan Times opinion page and to report on any school related activity. ALL STUDENTS are encouraged to submit their work or art to Echoes. Magazine. Due to the number of submissions, only the best work can be published. A team of students and faculty make the selections.
